Vietnam calls for stronger UN Human Rights Council effectiveness

During the 63rd regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Vietnam called for increased effectiveness in the promotion and protection of human rights. Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Vietnam's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized the need for stronger action to address modern global challenges, including armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, climate change, cyberspace security, and the emergence of new technologies.

As a member of the Council for the 2026-2028 term, Vietnam reaffirmed its commitment to sincere dialogue and constructive cooperation with all countries and UN mechanisms. The delegation stated that such efforts should align with the principles of universality, fairness, objectivity, impartiality, and non-interference.

Ambassador Dung also congratulated Volker Türk on his re-election as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for a second term. Additionally, the Vietnamese government expressed condolences to China and Nepal regarding the loss of life and damage caused by recent flooding in those nations.
