Vietnam Cancer Prevention Conference Calls for Comprehensive Breakthroughs

A conference titled “Phòng chống ung thư: Cần bước đột phá toàn diện” was held in Vietnam, organized by Báo Tiền Phong in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Hong Bang International University. The event brought together senior officials, leading oncologists and representatives from major hospitals to assess the growing burden of cancer in the country and to identify obstacles in prevention, early detection, treatment and care. Participants such as Vice‑Minister of Health Nguyễn Trí Thức, Deputy Director of the Cancer Hospital and Chairman of the Vietnam Cancer Association Đỗ Anh Tú, and other specialists discussed policy reforms, financing, workforce training, technology adoption and expanding access to advanced therapies.

Separately, Dr. Trương Hữu Hoàng, director of the Cancer Screening and Consultation Center at Military Central Hospital 108, reiterated that no medication currently exists to prevent cancer or its recurrence. He warned against false claims about “anti‑cancer” drugs or supplements and emphasized that the most effective risk‑reduction strategies are a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, balanced nutrition, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol, and routine health screenings to catch cancers early. He also highlighted familial risk indicators that warrant closer monitoring.
