Vietnam cardiovascular experts announce new mitral valve repair consensus
At the Vietnam Valves 2026 scientific conference held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese cardiovascular experts announced a new consensus on transcatheter mitral valve repair. The conference was organized by the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City and supported by the Vietnam Society of Cardiology and the Vietnam Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.
The consensus document provides standardized guidelines for patient assessment, indications, timing of intervention, the organization of multidisciplinary Heart Teams, requirements for performing centers, and post-procedural follow-up. This follows a previous consensus announced at the 2025 conference regarding transcatheter aortic valve stenosis treatment.
Experts noted that technological advancements and minimally invasive procedures are expanding treatment options, which is critical as an aging population increases the prevalence of degenerative heart valve diseases. Professor Nguyen Hoang Dinh emphasized the importance of the Heart Team model and the need to build practical data on heart valve diseases specifically in the Vietnamese population to standardize treatment protocols.
