Vietnam chess players prioritize physical training for elite performance
Following a successful performance at the 2026 Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan, the Vietnam chess team is increasingly focusing on physical fitness and scientific recovery to reach world-class standards.
During the Olympiad, the Vietnamese women's team achieved a top 10 world ranking, finishing 9th out of 189 teams. The men's team ranked 19th out of 206 teams and secured a gold medal in Group B. Notable individual achievements included Grandmaster Nguyen Thi Mai Hung winning a silver medal on board 5, while young players Banh Gia Huy and Nguyen Quoc Hy earned International Grandmaster standards.
To combat fatigue and maintain tactical sharpness during critical endgame stages, the Vietnam Chess Federation is emphasizing physical training alongside mental preparation. To support the athletes' recovery, KOI Fitness and Wellness has provided premium membership packages to the team members to facilitate specialized strength and conditioning training.
