Vietnam-China Border Bridge Project Advances After Lai Chau Talks

On 30 July, officials from Vietnam’s Lai Châu province and China’s Vân Nam province met for the second bilateral forum on constructing a multi‑purpose road‑bridge across the Ma Lù Thàng–Kim Thủy Hà border crossing. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Director Tạ Đức Hùng of the Lai Châu Department of Construction and senior engineer Từ Đông Vân of Vân Nam’s Transport Department, focused on finalising technical specifications, coordinating design standards, and preparing documentation for higher‑level approval. Participants agreed on bridge alignment, structural design, elevation data and shared survey procedures, creating a basis for the next investment and construction phases.

The project aims to improve transport of people and goods, support cross‑border trade and strengthen economic and social ties between the two neighbouring regions. Both sides signed a second‑hand protocol confirming their commitment to cooperate on the bridge’s design and implementation, signalling continued progress toward a functional link at the Ma Lù Thàng‑Kim Thủy Hà checkpoint.
