Asia regional economic cooperation expands through APEC meetings and Vietnam-China corridor initiatives
Regional economic cooperation is intensifying through major diplomatic and trade initiatives in Asia. In Dalian, China, the third APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3) is underway, hosting over 2,300 representatives across approximately 130 sessions to build a foundation for the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen.
Simultaneously, the 32nd APEC SME Ministerial Meeting is scheduled for early September in Guangzhou. The meeting, themed ‘Innovation Driven, Win-Win Cooperation,’ will focus on digital empowerment, sustainable development, and cross-border investment to help small and medium-sized enterprises navigate global supply chain shifts.
In Southeast Asia, the 12th Vietnam-China Economic Corridor cooperation meeting was held in Lao Cai. Representatives from Yunnan Province and several Vietnamese provinces, including Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh, discussed transitioning from simple point-to-point cooperation to full-line connectivity. Key priorities include the construction of the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Hai Phong standard-gauge railway, the development of smart ports, and enhanced cooperation in digital transformation, green energy, and cross-border e-commerce.
