Vietnam-China train services suspended until August 30

International train services between Vietnam and China have been suspended until August 30, 2026, due to severe rainfall and storms. The Vietnam Railway Transport Joint Stock Company announced that the T8701/MR2 service departing from Nanning and the MR1/T8702 service departing from Gia Lam will remain halted.

The suspension, which originally began on August 22, was extended to ensure passenger safety amid hazardous weather conditions. Authorities have classified the stoppage as a force majeure event.

In response to the weather risks, the national railway group has increased patrols and inspections at critical infrastructure points. This includes monitoring bridges, flood-prone tracks, steep mountain passes, and areas susceptible to flash floods, rockfalls, or landslides. Efforts are also focused on inspecting railway lines located downstream of dams and reservoirs to ensure rapid response to any potential incidents.
