Vietnam limits passengers to two power banks on flights from July 1 2026

The Vietnamese Civil Aviation Authority issued Directive 3557/CT-CHK, effective 1 July 2026, requiring each air traveler to carry no more than two power banks. The devices must be placed in hand luggage, removed from bags, and positioned for easy observation. Use of power banks on board is prohibited.

Power banks containing lithium metal may not exceed 2 g of lithium, and lithium‑ion units may not exceed 100 Wh without special approval. Units between 100 Wh and 160 Wh require airline consent before the flight. Each power bank must be individually protected—kept in original retail packaging, insulated, or sealed in a separate plastic bag—to prevent short‑circuiting.

The rule follows ICAO safety guidelines after several incidents worldwide in which lithium‑ion power banks caused fires on aircraft, prompting similar bans by major airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Singapore Airlines and others.
