Vietnam Coast Guard marks 28 years of maritime sovereignty protection

The Vietnam Coast Guard is marking its traditional day, commemorating the 28-year history of its establishment. Originally founded following the issuance of Ordinance No. 04 by the National Assembly Standing Committee on March 28, 1998, the force has evolved from a department under the Navy Command into a full Command structure.

The Vietnam Coast Guard currently operates with nearly 20 subordinate agencies and units, utilizing a fleet of modern vessels and boats. The force is tasked with protecting national sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction, as well as maintaining maritime security and order. Key achievements include preventing illegal activities by foreign vessels in Vietnamese waters and investigating hundreds of cases involving smuggling, trade fraud, and large-scale drug trafficking.
