Vietnam pork prices decline amid rising meat imports
Vietnam's domestic pork market is facing significant downward pressure as prices continue to decline across all three major regions. As of early October 2026, live hog prices are fluctuating between 53,000 and 55,000 VND/kg. In the North, prices in provinces like Lai Chau have dropped to 53,000 VND/kg, while the highest rates remain around 55,000 VND/kg in areas such as Hanoi and Quang Ninh.
In Central and Southern Vietnam, similar trends are observed, with prices generally ranging from 53,000 to 55,000 VND/kg. This decline is compounded by a surge in cheap meat imports. Data from the first eight months of 2026 shows that Vietnam imported 658,700 tons of meat products, valued at 1.91 billion USD. Specifically, pork imports rose by 18.8% in volume, while the average import price dropped by nearly 36% to approximately 45,000 VND/kg.
Major suppliers of imported pork include Brazil (45.1%), Russia (21.24%), Spain (19.87%), and Germany (4.58%). The combination of rising domestic production costs and the influx of low-priced imported meat is creating intense competitive pressure for local livestock farmers.
