Vietnam commemorates 300th anniversary of scholar Lê Quý Đôn

On July 30, 2024, Vietnam marked the 300th birth anniversary of Lê Quý Đôn, a renowned 18th‑century scholar, poet, historian and diplomat. The celebration in Hưng Yên province featured the launch of a special commemorative postage stamp by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Academy of Social Sciences and local authorities. Ministry officials, including Deputy Minister Phạm Đức Long, signed the stamp’s cover sheet and highlighted Lê Quý Đôn’s lasting influence on Vietnamese culture, education and scientific development.

Simultaneously, a televised artistic program titled “Rạng rỡ Văn hiến Việt Nam” was broadcast live on VTV1. The show, produced in partnership with the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department and various ministries, combined music, dance, traditional theatre and modern technology to depict Lê Quý Đôn’s life and legacy. UNESCO’s resolution honoring the scholar was also presented during the event, underscoring the international recognition of his contributions.
