Vietnam communities promote ethnic cultural preservation
Local communities and youth organizations in Vietnam are actively working to preserve ethnic minority cultural identities through education and community engagement.
In Yen Thanh Commune, schools are integrating traditional cultural content into the curriculum. This includes teaching local folk songs, dances, and traditional games to students. The commune, which is home to diverse ethnic groups including the Dao, Tay, Nung, and Cao Lan, aims to ensure that traditional practices like the Chuong dance or folk singing are passed down to younger generations despite modern economic shifts.
In Quang Ninh province, youth unions are taking a leading role in maintaining cultural heritage. In areas with significant populations of Tay, Dao, and San Chi people, young volunteers participate in traditional festivals and folk art performances. Specific initiatives include summer classes for teaching traditional singing and musical instruments, such as 'then' singing and 'dan tinh' playing, as well as workshops on traditional brocade embroidery and ethnic costumes.
