Vietnam consolidates public schools in Hanoi and Tuyen Quang

Several districts in Hanoi are reorganising their public school networks under a multi‑campus model, cutting the number of schools while keeping existing school sites. For example, Ha Đông ward plans to reduce its public schools from 41 to 21, merging kindergartens, primary and secondary schools and creating two new combined primary‑secondary schools. Other Hanoi wards, such as Ô Chợ Dừa and Sơn Tây, are also merging dozens of facilities into a few multi‑level institutions.

In Tuyên Quang province, the People’s Committee approved a province‑wide consolidation that slashes the total number of public education facilities from 1,063 to 578, a 45.6% reduction. The biggest cuts affect secondary schools, which fall from 240 to 72, while primary schools drop from 279 to 93 and kindergartens from 354 to 175. The plan also expands linked primary‑secondary schools to improve resource use and maintain student access, especially in remote and ethnic‑minority areas. Officials say the restructuring aims to streamline management, preserve teaching quality, and ensure students do not need to change schools.
