Vietnam construction and transport sectors face labor and sustainability challenges

The construction and transport sectors in Vietnam are navigating significant shifts toward sustainability and human resource management. Song Da Cao Cuong Joint Stock Company (SCL) is implementing a circular economy model by repurposing industrial by-products, such as thermal power ash and gypsum, into green building materials. To support this technological transition, the company has invested approximately 1,000 billion VND in new factories and modern production lines over the last two years to enhance automation and product quality.

Simultaneously, industry experts are warning of a potential labor shortage in the construction sector, which may require hundreds of thousands of additional workers to meet infrastructure demands through 2030 and 2050. Discussions emphasize the need for a long-term human resource strategy that integrates academic training with practical industry needs. Experts suggest that educational programs must evolve to include technological application and creative skills, moving beyond mechanical labor forecasting to a more holistic assessment of industry capacity and market needs.
