Vietnam construction quality standards to tighten under new decree

The quality of residential buildings depends heavily on structural elements that become hidden during construction, such as steel reinforcement, waterproofing, and electrical and plumbing systems. Experts emphasize that inspecting these components must occur at the correct stage before they are covered by concrete or finishing materials to prevent long-term issues like leaks or structural decay.

According to 2024 mid-term census data from the General Statistics Office, the majority of Vietnam's 28.1 million households live in homes built since 2000. To enhance oversight, Decree 207/2026/NĐ-CP regarding the management of construction quality, execution, and maintenance is set to take effect on July 1, 2026. This regulation will clarify responsibilities for construction participants and establish stricter requirements for technical standards, material control, and quality supervision for individual houses.
