Vietnam court sentences Nguyen Minh Phuc to death for murder

The Dong Nai Provincial People's Court in Vietnam sentenced 31‑year‑old Nguyen Minh Phuc to death for murder and an additional four years’ imprisonment for robbery. The court found that on 19 June 2025 Phuc attacked a 59‑year‑old shopkeeper on National Highway 51, using a knife to stab the victim 16 times after stealing 1.5 million dong, resulting in the victim’s death at the scene. Phuc fled but was quickly apprehended by police.

The court described Phuc’s conduct as especially dangerous and concluded that he posed no prospect of rehabilitation, ordering the maximum penalty to remove him permanently from society and to serve as a deterrent.
