Vietnam courts Gen Z tourists as Phu Quoc ramps up English for APEC 2027
Travel and Leisure, citing a Kayak "What the Future 2026" report, placed Vietnam among the top ten ideal destinations for Generation‑Z travelers. The report notes that Gen Z visitors prioritize unique, affordable experiences and favor rural or quieter locales over heavily promoted hotspots. Vietnam’s appeal is highlighted through its iconic sites such as Ha Long Bay, Hanoi, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City and the island of Phu Quoc, with experts like Tara Cappel praising the country’s culture, cuisine and hospitality.
In preparation for the APEC 2027 summit, Phu Quoc’s special economic zone announced a community English programme running from 2026 to 2030. The initiative includes free English classes in schools and community centres, a first‑ever English Day, and scholarships for students. Residents such as Anh Nguyễn Trường Thọ expressed enthusiasm, saying the training will help them communicate with international visitors and act as “tourism ambassadors” for the island.
