Vietnam authorities prosecute multiple corruption and crime cases
Vietnam authorities have initiated several high-profile criminal investigations and court proceedings involving corruption, fraud, and violent crime.
In a major environmental fraud case, 28 individuals have been prosecuted for falsifying environmental monitoring data across 10 laboratories belonging to four different ministries and agencies. The suspects are accused of manipulating analysis results to change “Not Pass” statuses to “Pass” and engaging in bribery to issue fraudulent results.
In separate corruption cases, a former official in Pleiku was sentenced to four years in prison for accepting nearly 70 million VND in bribes related to construction permits. Additionally, the wife of a former director at the National Institute of Forensic Psychiatry was questioned regarding the receipt of 200 million VND in bribes intended to influence medical treatment decisions.
Other notable legal developments include a 12-year sentence for a former police officer involved in a 3.5 billion VND scheme to facilitate the sale of counterfeit infant formula. In a violent incident in Dak Lak, a man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of his brother-in-law. Meanwhile, a woman in Hanoi received a 6-month suspended sentence for intentionally damaging a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
