Vietnam CPI rises 4.89% in August 2026 amid fuel price hikes

Vietnam's Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 4.89% in August 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to data released by the General Statistics Office. This increase was driven by price adjustments across all 11 major consumer commodity groups.

The transportation sector saw the highest growth at 8.02%, largely due to a 15.8% surge in fuel prices following domestic adjustments aligned with global market trends. Other significant increases were noted in housing, electricity, water, and construction materials, which rose by 6.6%.

For the first eight months of 2026, the average CPI increased by 4.45% year-on-year. The primary drivers for this sustained upward trend include rising costs for housing maintenance, construction materials, and increased electricity demand during the hot season, alongside a 9.35% increase in fuel prices.
