Vietnam-Cuba cooperation advances rice processing in Yara
The Vietnam-Cuba cooperation project is making progress in the municipality of Yara, Cuba, through the development of rice processing infrastructure. The Enidio Díaz drying facility, located in the José Martí community, is a key component of the TBAgri Connecting Vietnam-Cuba alliance. This initiative aims to increase rice production by introducing high-quality varieties, hybrid seeds, and advanced agricultural technology.
The facility allows for the drying and processing of grain, which is essential for reducing post-harvest losses and ensuring food quality. In the current campaign, the cultivated area has expanded to approximately 246 hectares, with projected yields exceeding 6.5 tons per hectare. The local infrastructure also includes a mill capable of processing 1.2 tons of rice per hour.
The project has a 25-year outlook, with the goal of eventually expanding cultivation to 25,000 hectares across Cuba, building on pilot experiences in Granma and Pinar del Río. The primary objective is to strengthen Cuba’s food sovereignty and internal supply.
