Vietnam Customs enhances drug crime control training
The Customs Department held a training conference on October 7-8, 2026, in Dong Hoi to enhance the ability of customs officials to identify and control drug crime methods and tactics across key routes and border areas.
Attended by representatives from 12 regional customs branches, the event featured instructors from the Ministry of Public Security’s Police Investigation Agency for Drug Crimes (C04) and the People's Police Academy. The initiative is part of the National Target Program on drug prevention and control through 2030, aimed at strengthening the role of customs, businesses, and the community in combating narcotics at borders and checkpoints.
Officials warned that transnational drug crime is becoming increasingly complex. Criminals are reportedly exploiting international transport, e-commerce, express delivery services, and passenger flows to smuggle drugs and precursors using sophisticated concealment and camouflage techniques. In response, the Customs Department emphasized a shift toward proactive risk assessment and early identification rather than relying solely on increased inspections.
