Vietnam deepens diplomatic ties and overseas community outreach in 2026

In 2026 Vietnam marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Thailand, highlighting a growing overseas Vietnamese community of over 100,000 people, chiefly in Thailand’s northeastern provinces. The community acts as a cultural bridge and has been actively engaged by the Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Kaen, which supported the Vietnamese Association’s congress and joint activities with the Thai‑Vietnamese Business Association and women’s committees.

Vietnam’s diplomatic outreach also expanded through honorary consuls and high‑level visits. An international conference in Hanoi stressed digital skills for UN peacekeeping. Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary visited Vietnam and Viettel, praising its role in Cambodia’s digital transformation. Vietnam reiterated support for a two‑state solution to the Israeli‑Palestinian conflict at the UN Security Council, and strengthened ties with Lithuania within the EU partnership framework. President and Party General Secretary To Lam called for swift implementation of party resolutions, while Vice‑Premier Pham Gia Tuc highlighted a new national security strategy outlining six guiding principles and seven objectives.
