Vietnam Deploys AI Surveillance to Combat School Violence

The Vietnamese government has issued a directive for the use of artificial‑intelligence systems to monitor and prevent school‑yard bullying and online harassment. Starting in 2026, the prime minister ordered nationwide rollout, and the Ho Chi Minh City authority has already connected AI‑driven tools to school networks.

On the internet, AI filters will scan student forums and social‑media pages, automatically flagging or removing threatening, body‑shaming or abusive comments before they reach peers. In physical school grounds, smart cameras equipped with computer‑vision will detect abnormal behaviours such as pushing, fights or other signs of aggression and send an SOS alert to teachers for rapid intervention. The system also analyses changes in online interaction patterns to identify students showing signs of isolation or psychological distress, and can trigger 24/7 anonymous chatbot support.

Psychologists caution that while the technology can flag harmful language or physical incidents, it cannot replace human empathy, compassion or the personal support that teachers and families provide.
