Vietnam detains former prosecutor and busts large drug trafficking ring

The Supreme People’s Procuracy ordered the detention of Lê Thị Hồng Nhung, a former prosecutor in Hanoi, on accusations of deliberately falsifying case files in a gambling investigation. Inspectors discovered two investigation conclusion documents with identical reference numbers but contradictory details, revealing a discrepancy of over 89 billion VND in reported gambling fines and suggesting large sums were hidden from state accounts.

In a separate operation, Ho Chi Minh City police, together with other law‑enforcement units, dismantled an international drug‑trafficking network that smuggled methamphetamine into Vietnam through border routes. The sweep resulted in the arrest of 65 suspects, the seizure of more than 10 kg of methamphetamine, two military‑type rifles and hundreds of ammunition rounds, with further investigations ongoing to apprehend remaining members.
