Vietnam detains four suspects over land compensation fraud at Ninh Thuận nuclear plant
On 29 June, police in Khánh Hòa province announced the temporary detention of four individuals accused of abusing the land‑compensation, support and resettlement policies linked to the Ninh Thuận 1 nuclear power plant project. The suspects – Nguyễn Hữu Tân, Hán Tấn Vĩnh An, Trần Huỳnh Kiến Trúc and Đỗ Ngọc Quang – are alleged to have occupied state‑owned land, forged handwritten transfer documents and recruited others to register the land in their names in order to claim unlawful compensation.
Investigators say the scheme involved the illegal seizure of land within the plant’s construction zone in Phước Dinh commune. The police investigation has been broadened to examine whether additional officials or parties improperly facilitated or overlooked the violations, aiming to ensure the national‑level project proceeds transparently and in accordance with regulations.
