Vietnam detains two suspects for facilitating illegal stay of Chinese fraud group
The Lao Cai provincial police’s Security Investigation Department announced on 23 June 2026 that Hoàng Thanh Huyền, a 29‑year‑old Vietnamese resident of Tuyên Quang, and Ye Chong Jun (known locally as Diệp Sùng Tuấn), a Chinese national, have been formally charged and placed in pre‑trial detention.
Investigators said the pair organized the illegal entry of three other Chinese citizens – Liu Minh, Yuan Piao and Liu Zi Xin – into Lao Cai province and arranged rental apartments at 518 An Dương Vương Street and 26LK3 Trần Hưng Đạo Street to serve as bases for an online fraud scheme. Both suspects are accused of violating Vietnam’s Penal Code Article 348 for “organising for others to remain in Vietnam illegally.” The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek further evidence on the fraud operation.
