Vietnam Ministry of Home Affairs develops new salary policy based on job positions
Vietnam’s Minister of Home Affairs, Nguyen Tien Hai, announced that the Ministry is collaborating with the Central Organization Commission to develop a comprehensive salary scheme. This new policy will be based on a job-position framework spanning from central to local levels, serving as a foundation for determining staffing allocations for the 2027–2031 period.
The reform aims to address salary and allowance issues for public employees, particularly those at the commune level. During a National Assembly session, it was reported that over 5.8 million people, excluding the armed forces, are expected to benefit from recent and upcoming adjustments.
Financial projections indicate that approximately 48.5 trillion VND in additional resources will be allocated in the latter half of 2026. This includes an increase in the base salary from 2.34 million VND to 2.53 million VND per month, affecting over 2.2 million officials and civil servants. Additionally, nearly 3.5 million retirees and social insurance beneficiaries will see adjustments starting in January 2027.
