Vietnam digital finance shifts as Gen Z prioritizes asset building
In Vietnam, digital finance is undergoing a significant shift as Gen Z moves from simple saving to proactive asset building. According to the State Bank of Vietnam, over 87% of adults hold bank accounts, and more than 90% of transactions at many credit institutions are now conducted through digital channels.
Younger consumers are increasingly using smartphones to manage cash flow and access financial services. Rather than merely saving what remains at the end of the month, Gen Z is focusing on pre-defined goals such as essential spending, emergency funds, and long-term investments. Data from UOB’s ASEAN Consumer Sentiment Study indicates that 57% of Vietnamese consumers allocate more than 10% of their annual income to investment.
Despite this proactive trend, a gap remains in financial preparedness; only 47% of Gen Z respondents have enough savings to cover more than three months of expenses. This highlights a need for earlier financial foundation building through digital platforms that offer intuitive tracking and diverse financial solutions.
