Vietnam discusses infrastructure and heritage policies for APEC 2027
The Vietnam National Assembly is discussing special mechanisms and policies to facilitate infrastructure projects in preparation for the 2027 APEC Summit. These measures aim to resolve difficulties in implementing projects and construction items required for the summit, particularly in areas like Phu Quoc.
During discussions, lawmakers raised concerns regarding the relocation of historical relics to make way for strategic infrastructure. Specifically, the relocation of Dong Coi communal house and Tam Son communal house in Bac Ninh province is being considered to support projects connecting Gia Binh International Airport to Hanoi and the construction of police aviation barracks.
While these projects are viewed as strategic for the nation's future, delegates emphasized the need to preserve the integrity of heritage spaces and the cultural memories of generations. Current heritage laws lack specific provisions for relocating relics for investment projects, prompting the need for specialized policy frameworks to balance modern development with cultural preservation.
