Vietnam doctors perform high-risk surgery on 130kg pregnant woman

Medical teams in Vietnam successfully performed a high-risk cesarean section on a pregnant woman weighing 130kg who was suffering from severe preeclampsia. The patient, who was 37 weeks and 2 days pregnant, faced significant complications due to severe obesity and high blood pressure, which increased the risks of bleeding, thrombosis, and surgical difficulties.

The surgical procedure was led by MSc. Dr. Trần Ngọc Đính, Head of the Voluntary Delivery Department D3, in coordination with an anesthesia team headed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Đức Lam. Due to the patient's thick adipose tissue, doctors utilized spinal anesthesia followed by endotracheal intubation to ensure airway control and stable vital signs throughout the operation.

The surgery resulted in the successful birth of a 2,550g baby boy. Both the mother and the newborn were subsequently monitored by neonatal and medical staff.
