Vietnam driver's license exam statistics show high failure rates
Data from the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security regarding driver's license examinations in the first nine months of the year shows that out of 4,415,691 candidates, 2,886,413 passed, representing a 65.37% success rate.
Notable cases of repeated failures include a candidate in Tuyen Quang who failed the manual B class exam 18 times, a candidate in Quang Ninh who failed 15 times, one in Ninh Binh who failed 14 times, and one in Son La who failed 12 times. The driving course (sa hinh) is identified as the most common area of failure during practical exams. In the theoretical portion, the highest number of failures was recorded in Vinh Long, where a candidate failed the C1 class exam 10 times.
Experts and former unsuccessful candidates suggest that psychological pressure, overconfidence, and relying on memorized formulas or tips rather than understanding the core principles are primary reasons why candidates struggle during the actual examination.
