Vietnam's fruit export sector recorded a historic surge in July 2026, with total export value exceeding $1 billion, a 13 % rise from the previous month and 38 % higher than a year earlier. Over the first seven months of the year, fruit exports reached over $4.7 billion, up 23 % year‑on‑year and generating a trade surplus close to $3 billion. Durian alone accounts for more than 50 % of that revenue.

The domestic market, however, faces a flood of low‑quality durian (type B/C), which makes up about 60‑70 % of the harvest and cannot meet the strict standards of major importers such as China. Chinese buyers accept only type A fruit that meets precise weight, shape, flesh thickness and pest‑free criteria. This surplus has pushed retail prices for whole durian down to 40,000–60,000 VND per kilogram.

In the Central Highlands, several firms in Lâm Đồng province have requested the revocation of planting‑area and packing‑facility codes to avoid legal risks, leading authorities to withdraw a total of 21 planting‑area codes and 7 packing‑facility codes. The province, which holds the largest durian acreage in Vietnam, aims to produce around 310,000 tonnes in 2026.
