Vietnam durian market shows stable domestic prices and strong export growth

The Vietnamese durian market shows stability in domestic prices across major regions, including the Southwest, Southeast, and Central Highlands. Prices vary by variety and grade. For instance, Ri6 durian grades range from 10,000 to 42,000 VND/kg, while Thai durian grades range from 28,000 to 86,000 VND/kg. Musang King remains a premium option, with prices reaching up to 80,000 VND/kg in some areas.

Durian has become a strategic agricultural export for Vietnam. In 2025, total fruit and vegetable exports reached approximately 8.6 billion USD, with durian accounting for 3.8 billion USD. From the beginning of 2026 to date, durian exports have reached 1.77 billion USD.

In the high-end segment, the Black Thorn variety continues to attract consumers despite high costs. Originating from Malaysia, Black Thorn is characterized by its deep orange flesh and creamy texture. While garden prices for Grade A Black Thorn range from 150,000 to 180,000 VND/kg, retail prices can reach 400,000 VND/kg, sometimes resulting in a single fruit costing nearly 1 million VND. Supply remains limited in Vietnam as cultivation is still in relatively early stages compared to more common varieties.
