Vietnam digital economy expands through AI and e-commerce growth

Vietnam is undergoing a significant digital transformation across its economic sectors. In the e-commerce market, B2C transactions are estimated to have reached $13.9 billion in the first two quarters of 2026, a 17.9% year-on-year increase. Growth is increasingly driven by technological integration, such as Lazada’s use of the ‘Lazzie’ AI assistant to enhance the shopping experience.

To support this digital shift, trade promotion strategies are moving toward proactive, data-driven models that prioritize green commerce and digital capabilities over traditional exhibitions. Meanwhile, the postal sector is seeing massive growth, with revenues rising from 4,000 billion VND in 2010 to over 87,000 billion VND by 2025, largely driven by e-commerce parcels.

Regulatory and institutional updates are also underway. Commercial banks are preparing to adopt the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS 2024) to manage new risks from AI and blockchain. Additionally, authorities are emphasizing the protection of personal data against illegal trading, with strict penalties outlined in government decrees to safeguard digital assets.
