Vietnam education reforms focus on integrity and English language roles

The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training is implementing initiatives to integrate values of honesty, integrity, and responsibility into the educational curriculum. Educators are encouraged to embed these principles into language learning, particularly in English classes, through interactive activities, critical thinking discussions on topics like technology and ethics, and practical exercises such as peer evaluation.

Simultaneously, discussions are underway regarding the role of English in the national curriculum. A draft regulation proposes that non-specialized high schools may only require Mathematics and Literature for grade 10 entrance exams. This has sparked debate over whether removing English from entrance exams will reduce academic pressure and allow students to focus on practical communication skills, or if it will diminish the motivation to master the language as it moves toward becoming a second language in schools.
