Vietnam trade turnover nears 1,000 billion USD milestone
Vietnam is approaching a historic milestone in trade, with total turnover reaching 770 billion USD in the first eight months of 2026, a 28.7% increase compared to the same period last year. The country is on track to potentially exceed 1,000 billion USD in total trade value by the end of the year.
Agricultural and seafood sectors are driving this growth. Agricultural exports reached approximately 49.3 billion USD from January to August 2026, up 7% year-on-year. Fruit and vegetable exports were particularly strong, totaling 6.02 billion USD, with durian emerging as a high-value commodity.
Seafood exports reached 8 billion USD in the first eight months, an 11.8% increase. Shrimp exports accounted for 3.2 billion USD of this total. China and Hong Kong remain the largest markets for Vietnamese seafood, contributing 2.03 billion USD. To meet rising demand, companies like Minh Phu Seafood Group are expanding capacity and investing in automation, though high demand continues to put pressure on processing capabilities.
