Vietnam Electricity reports significant profit growth and stable supply

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has reported a significant financial turnaround, with consolidated profit for the first half of 2026 reaching over 20,800 billion VND, a 136% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by improved financial activities, including increased interest income, favorable exchange rate fluctuations, and a sharp reduction in financial costs.

In the first eight months of the year, the group's total revenue reached over 482,000 billion VND, representing 70% of its annual plan. EVN Chairman Dang Hoang An noted that the group has successfully cleared accumulated losses from previous years. The company is currently working on restructuring plans to focus on its core business of electricity production, transmission, and distribution.

Regarding energy supply, electricity production and imports for September 2026 are estimated at 30.3 billion kWh, a 10.3% increase year-on-year. EVN is prioritizing stable power supply and disaster prevention during the rainy season, instructing hydroelectric and thermal power units to ensure fuel supplies and dam safety. Additionally, EVN has submitted proposed electricity retail price frameworks for 2026 to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
