EVN breaks ground on $1.5 billion LNG plant in Quang Tri
Vietnam Electricity (EVN) has officially commenced construction on the Quang Trach II LNG thermal power plant project in Quang Tri province. The project, which utilizes advanced combined-cycle gas turbine technology from the United States, has a total investment of over 40,123 billion VND (approximately $1.5 billion).
The Quang Trach II plant is expected to have a capacity of 1,612.8 MW and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in February 2030. The project is being financed with 20% equity and 80% commercial loans, co-funded by Vietcombank, VietinBank, BIDV, and Agribank.
Simultaneously, EVN announced that the Quang Trach I thermal power plant, which uses coal fuel, has successfully begun feeding electricity into the national grid. Together, the two projects are expected to supply over 17.2 billion kWh of electricity annually, supporting national energy security and the transition toward sustainable energy under Vietnam's Power Development Plan VIII.
