Vietnam Embassy verifies status of citizens after Nepal flash floods
The Vietnamese Embassy in India, which also oversees Nepal and Bhutan, is working to verify the status of two Vietnamese nationals following devastating flash floods near the Nepal-China border on August 26.
According to records from the Langtang National Park office and the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN), two individuals with Vietnamese nationality registered at a checkpoint on August 24, two days before the disaster. However, the embassy noted that the information is currently incomplete and unclear, as the names provided do not necessarily match passport details. The embassy lacks confirmed identity, passport numbers, travel itineraries, or the current status of these individuals.
The list provided by the park office is a registry of trekkers heading to the Gosaikunda and Langtang/Kyanjin Valley areas, rather than an official list of missing persons. Separately, the Nepal Tourism Board released a list of foreigners missing after the floods, which included one Vietnamese citizen, though it remains unconfirmed if this individual is one of the two registered in Langtang. The embassy is coordinating with the Vietnamese Association in Nepal and the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Nepal to clarify the situation.
