Vietnam Enacts New E‑Commerce Law Effective July 1
On July 1, 2026 Vietnam's new E‑Commerce Law entered into force, providing a comprehensive legal framework for the rapidly expanding digital marketplace.
The law comprises seven chapters and 41 articles that define the scope of e‑commerce activities, classify business models and assign clear responsibilities to online sellers, platform operators, payment providers and logistics services. It mandates retailer identification, product‑information disclosure and strengthens data‑driven oversight.
Officials noted that e‑commerce sales reached about $31 billion in 2025, roughly 11 % of total retail turnover and involving around 60 % of Vietnamese consumers. The legislation seeks to curb counterfeit goods, fraud and intellectual‑property violations that have grown with the sector, while protecting consumer rights.
By requiring greater transparency and accountability across the digital supply chain, the law aims to boost confidence in online transactions and support the continued development of Vietnam's digital economy.
