Vietnam implements new agricultural traceability and market management regulations
The Vietnamese government has issued new decrees to standardize agricultural product traceability. Decree No. 37/2026/ND-CP and Decree No. 372/2026/ND-CP mandate data connectivity and sharing across production and distribution systems. Mandatory traceability will be applied to high-risk product groups according to a specific roadmap, effective January 1, 2027.
In response to rising consumer demand during the year-end period, authorities are also intensifying market management to prevent smuggling, fraud, and the sale of counterfeit or untraceable goods. In the first nine months of 2026, functional agencies detected and processed 2,302 violations, including 151 cases of illegal smuggling and 135 cases of intellectual property violations.
To ensure food safety at the source, wholesale markets such as the Hoc Mon agricultural market in Ho Chi Minh City are tightening inspections. Vendors are required to submit certificates of origin and food safety compliance before products can be sold. Local authorities are coordinating with food safety departments to monitor storage conditions and business compliance to protect consumers during the peak Tet holiday shopping season.
