Vietnam enters top 10 globally for internet speeds

Vietnam has entered the top 10 fastest countries globally for both mobile and fixed broadband speeds, according to the July 2026 Speedtest Global Index by Ookla. The country's mobile internet speed surged from approximately 87 Mbps to over 205 Mbps in less than two years, ranking 10th worldwide and surpassing the United States and China.

Fixed broadband speeds in Vietnam reached 307.11 Mbps, ranking 7th globally and trailing only Singapore. This rapid advancement is largely attributed to the nationwide deployment of 5G technology following its commercialization in late 2024.

The improvement marks a significant shift from 2015, when Vietnam ranked near the bottom of global lists with average speeds of just 3.8 Mbps during the 2G and early 3G eras. While growth remained relatively stagnant during the 3G and 4G periods, the transition to 5G has accelerated the nation's digital infrastructure capabilities.
