Vietnam expands trade through CPTPP and UK bilateral cooperation
Vietnam is seeing significant growth in trade through the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). In 2025, bilateral trade between Vietnam and CPTPP members reached 124.5 billion USD, with Vietnamese exports accounting for 70.6 billion USD, an 11.5% increase from the previous year. Notable growth was seen in Mexico, where exports rose nearly 29% to over 7 billion USD in 2025.
Despite this growth, Vietnam's market share in the bloc remains low at just over 1% of total CPTPP imports. Officials suggest businesses should view the CPTPP not just as a consumer market, but as a source for raw materials and supply chain reorganization to meet rules of origin requirements.
Simultaneously, cooperation between the United Kingdom and Vietnam is expanding. Bilateral trade reached 13.2 billion USD in the 12 months ending March 2026, an 8.8% annual increase. Driven by the UKVFTA and the UK's accession to the CPTPP, businesses are looking to move beyond traditional trade into technology, innovation, and capital markets.
