Vietnam expands trade ties, topping US cotton imports and deepening Brazil partnership

U.S. cotton imports to Vietnam surged 122% in 2025, making Vietnam the top buyer of American cotton. The United States remains Vietnam's largest market for textile and garment exports, reaching $6.81 billion in the first five months of 2026, about 45% of the sector’s total export value. In the same period, the U.S. exported roughly $4.7 billion of agricultural products to Vietnam, ranking as Vietnam’s second‑largest supplier of such goods.

In parallel, Vietnam and Brazil reported a 16.8% rise in two‑way trade during the first half of 2026, totaling $4.22 billion. Brazil’s exports to Vietnam exceeded $2 billion, while Vietnamese exports to Brazil amounted to about $2.11 billion, covering seafood, electronics, machinery, garments, and more. The bilateral talks highlighted the launch of negotiations on a preferential trade agreement with Mercosur and called for cooperation in renewable energy, biofuels, logistics, digital transformation, biotechnology, and green industry.
