Vietnam expands VNeID app to handle residence registration and add criminal‑record data
Vietnam's electronic identification platform VNeID now lets citizens register permanent or temporary residence directly through the mobile app. Users log in, verify their identity with passcode, fingerprint or facial recognition, enter personal and address details, and submit supporting documents such as a lease or proof of legal residence. The application tracks the request status and allows fee payment where required.
Starting 1 July 2026, VNeID will also display each citizen's criminal‑record information. The integrated data will show basic identity details and any existing convictions, including whether a record has been cleared. Access to the full record will require a six‑digit passcode for added security. This upgrade aims to streamline administrative procedures for jobs, study, overseas work and other legal processes, reducing the need for paper certificates and improving transparency in government services.
