Vietnam expressway construction faces terrain and drainage challenges

Construction projects for major expressways in Vietnam are encountering significant logistical and environmental hurdles. On the Cho Moi – Bac Kan expressway, contractors are navigating rugged mountainous terrain and fragmented construction sites. To maintain progress, teams have had to implement specialized solutions, such as diverting streams to create space for bridge piers and excavating approximately 200,000 cubic meters of earth to build service roads for heavy machinery.

Simultaneously, the expansion of the Noi Bai – Lao Cai expressway has caused local disruptions. Residents in several communes, including Bao Ha, report that civilian underpasses have become flooded and muddy due to construction activities. While contractors state these issues are temporary and will be resolved upon project completion, local authorities have urged developers to implement more robust drainage and lighting systems to prevent long-term difficulties for residents transporting goods and students commuting to school.
