Several major expressway projects in Vietnam are encountering delays due to land clearance issues and shortages of construction materials.
The Ho Chi Minh City - My Thuan expressway expansion requires the clearance of over 117 hectares of land. While some areas in Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh province have seen progress in land recovery notices, delays in relocating technical infrastructure such as electricity and telecommunications threaten to halt construction at several sites by late 2026.
Similarly, the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway project is facing difficulties with incomplete land handover in Vinh Long and Dong Thap provinces, alongside a scarcity of sand and stone. Specific obstacles include the relocation of 220kV power lines and water pipelines.
In the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway project, approximately 95.37% of the required land area has been handed over. However, challenges remain regarding the final relocation of assets and compensation payments for some remaining cases. Authorities aim to complete the remaining land handovers by November 2026 to ensure synchronized construction.
