Vietnam faces widespread landslides and river erosion

Multiple regions in Vietnam are facing severe consequences from landslides and river erosion. In Dong Thap province, 32 incidents of river and canal erosion have occurred this year, totaling 1,194 km in length. While erosion on the Tien River has decreased compared to 2025, inland erosion has surged by 16 cases, damaging homes, infrastructure, and aquaculture ponds, with one incident causing losses of approximately 5.19 billion VND. The province is implementing four emergency projects totaling 849 billion VND to mitigate risks along the Tien River.

In Lam Dong province, a massive landslide at a pine hill in Lang Biang, Da Lat, has threatened the Van Xuan - Lang Biang Town urban area. The landslide has caused structural damage to unfinished buildings, including cracked walls and broken concrete columns, and has uprooted numerous ancient pine trees. Authorities have placed warning signs and restricted access to the area.

In Thai Nguyen province, a landslide at Nam Cang slope on National Highway 3B has blocked two-thirds of the road. Large cracks on the hillside suggest an additional 3,000 to 4,000 cubic meters of earth and rock could fall. Recent heavy rains in the province have already resulted in one death, affected 138 houses, and damaged over 782 hectares of crops.
