Vietnam families locate remains of fallen soldiers after decades

Families in Vietnam have found new hope in locating the remains of fallen soldiers after decades of searching.

In Gia Lai Province, the family of martyr Dương Văn Hải received news of a discovery during an excavation at a local martyrs' cemetery. A white aluminum box engraved with his name was found, providing a significant lead for his relatives in Thái Nguyên. The family had previously attempted to search the area where he was believed to have fallen near the Sa Thầy River, but failed due to significant landscape changes caused by river erosion.

Separately, the family of martyr Bùi Đức Tư, originally from Hà Tĩnh, successfully located his grave in the Gio Linh Martyrs' Cemetery in Quảng Trị. The breakthrough came via a photograph of a tombstone sent by an acquaintance. Bùi Hoài Nam, the martyr's nephew, traveled to the cemetery to verify the information and confirmed the identity of the grave, ending a search that had lasted nearly 60 years.
