Vietnam female workforce faces AI-driven job displacement risks

Data from the General Statistics Office indicates that while the unemployment rate for the first nine months of 2026 stood at 2.22%, female workers face unique challenges due to the rapid advancement of digital technology and artificial intelligence.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), approximately 9.6% of female jobs are at risk of being altered by AI, nearly triple the 3.5% risk faced by men. This vulnerability is attributed to the concentration of women in administrative, clerical, data entry, and customer service roles.

Experts identify four key sectors with high female employment that are particularly susceptible to AI impact: office administration and basic accounting, customer service and retail, textiles and footwear, and creative design and communications. Additionally, the use of robotics in large manufacturing plants may affect simple labor roles often held by women.

On the corporate side, recruitment standards are shifting toward digital competency. A ManpowerGroup survey found that 83% of Vietnamese enterprises are willing to offer higher compensation for candidates who can use AI effectively and responsibly.
